Havana, Duke Street, Brighton
Project description
This former market stall on the site of an old Picture House in the heart of the Lanes (Brighton and Hove Cinemas) was demolished to form this new venue. The original buildings were retained at the rear onto Dukes Passage. These were underpinned and the whole site area reduced in level to create the ceiling heights and site lines the firms client required.
The practice produced all the design and construction drawings, and oversaw the works on site to completion.
The new street facade was designed to exact classical proportions and detail in close consultation with Heritage offices exact profiles and drawn detail were taken from classical Brighton & Hove squares to achieve an award winning facade.
The Colonial theme of the interior was carried throughout. The firm designed the bespoke staircases, joinery and furnishings throughout to reflect both the style and newly formed scale of the premises.
The original restaurant has now been relaunched as Bar 32, Duke Street, Brighton.
