Private House, Brighton
Project description
The Practice's clients purchased the existing 1950's two storey house of approximately 780 m.sq. They acquired the plot because of it's location within East Brighton with it's elevated views of the sea in Roedean.
The site is not within a Conservation Area and I was able to explore the Practice's client brief for a substantial contemporary private house. The firm negotiated the mass and scale of the house, by reducing the overall footprint to achieve a total of 950 m.sq. By raising the design proposals to include a penthouse storey with roof top garden and jacuzzi pool; it gave extensive views along the coastline.
There was initial neighbour objection to a preliminary scheme which the firm addressed by stepping the mass of the building down towards the east flank which then achieved detailed planning consent.
This new bespoke home is produced in an art deco style with flowing curves and terraces. The house comprises six bedrooms together with work from home offices in a separate annex.
A lift from the basement garages located under the front garden and gymnasium provides direct access to the penthouse bedroom suite. The master bedroom includes a spa pool with balcony, which opens onto a full size roof top swimming pool and garden terraces.
